i do think he got a bit lucky on dm6 about mid-way though when they spawned together and got the RA spawn and controlled it from that point on.

I'd like to see Mort play some solid tourny games but the fucking guy doesn't have the competitive edge you need to win serious games. He says he's all about "self expressive freedom and art." While I can respect that style of play in practice and fun games, if the guy is going to sign up for tournies where the prime objective is to win, I see it more of an excuse for losing. Anytime you're looking for a "backdoor" by holding some sort of an excuse for losing, you're not committing to playing your personal best and probably bound to wind up the loser.

That's my little rant and I say this because I think the guy is so fucking talented but he's holding onto useless ideas that's retarding his game. I think it's great he tries to express himself creatively and artistically but when it comes down to crunch time, it's time to show how those skills can be most effective.

I'm reminded of the American player blahblah who typically loses to just about anyone probably because in his normal style of play he likes to continuously rush his opponents. This made everyone think he was the underdog in the div1 NA-1v1-tournament and many thought he should be in div2 or 3. Although many of the top div1 players forfeited he still managed to surprise everyone by winning the tourny. My point is there's a time for having fun and being creative and shit, and there's a time to show what all that amounts to.

I'm a Mort fan but he's really got to step-up his game if anyone is going to take him seriously.

err "take him seriously?""" WTF? I know this might be a little hard to digest to some people but QW is a friggin video game you idiot and Im sure Mort plays purely for fun. FFS, what do you want him to do? Give up his day job so he can concentrate on winning meaningless online competitions? When was the last time anyone is AU even competed in a menaningful tournament with actual prize money involved? I can't speak for Mort but I doubt the guy plays the game so he can "one day" be taken seriously in the Deteriorating quake community. Unless we he decides to move to Eurpore there is no point in taking this game too seriously.

Playing for fun doesnt mean not playing your personal best, it means not attributing and focusing on the ego fullfillment of 'winning' or 'loosing'. Infact you actually play better when there is no fixation on a "ME ME I HAVE TO WIN" because there are less thoughts distracting you from playing and having fun. Winning or loosing means nothing when you dont attach meaning to it, and you can just enjoy the fun of playing/fragging without fixating on the outcome.

You can still play for fun and be competitive. A truly competitive player will usually *only* have fun if the game is competitive.

I've lived in both Canada and the US, and I also have a lot of family in Europe.

Which is not to say I'm not akin to the Aussies. I've had some pretty cool friends from Australia, and my parents love it there. Right now they are travelling through New Zealand on a 6 month vacation.
